The Onalaska Hilltoppers show choir brought home the third-place trophy and Holmen High School’s Midwest Express won the Class A grand championship Saturday at the Executive Session Invitational 2010 in Sauk-Prairie.

Midwest Express, made up mostly freshmen and sophomores, captured the prep division. Onalaska’s OHS Express took third in Class A behind second-place Milton’s Rising Stars.

La Crosse Central’s Grand Central Station finished in fourth place in the open division Saturday in the group’s first competition of the season.

The Hilltoppers made the finals for the first time this season in their second outing.

Cardinal Singers of Mayville, Wis., High School, who won the best band trophy, captured the grand championship. Milton (Wis.) Choralation, which won awards for best vocals and best choreography, finished in second. Silver Connection of Monona Grove High School placed fifth and Encore of Madison East High School was sixth.

Next up for Midwest Express is a competition this weekend in New London, Wis.

Logan High School’s Class Act Show Choir Invitational is the next event for the Hilltoppers and OHS Express, and Midwest Express also will be at the Feb. 13 event in La Crosse. Holmen’s competition is set for March 6.
