The Onalaska OmniCenter and A&P Enterprises have reached an agreement to bring the carnival back to the OmniCenter for the Memorial Day weekend in 2010, despite the cancellation of this year’s Sunfish Days celebration.
Details of the weekend are still being finalized but the OmniCenter confirmed that the carnival will run as usual with its wristband night on the opening night (Thursday, May 27) and run through Memorial Day. Monday’s final day will feature a special -- $1 per ride -- from noon to 5:00 p.m.
Tom Hammill, manager of the OmniCenter, said he heard a lot of feedback from area residents who felt that the carnival would be something that would be missed by the kids as well as families who would not be traveling that weekend.
Hammill said not having Sunfish Days on Memorial Day weekend would leave a void in the OmniCenter schedule as well as many families in the area, and so he wanted to have an event for the community and surrounding area that would be family oriented and offer a festive atmosphere as well as continuing to be the annual kick-off event for summer festivals.
More details will be announced as they become available.
