Beverly M. Wiggert-Morkwed
ONALASKA — Beverly M. Wiggert-Morkwed, 82, of Onalaska passed away at Hillview Healthcare Center, Saturday, Jan. 30, 2010, with the loving support of her family at her side. She was born in
La Crosse, Dec. 13, 1927, to Gerald and Emma (Walker) Morrison. Bev married Harry Wiggert, and they worked together at Wiggert Brothers in downtown La Crosse for many years. He preceded her in death in 1988. Later, she married Richard Morkwed; he preceded her in death in 2002. Bev was always active in sports, loving to watch, participate in and attend all different types of activities. She was an excellent bowler and was a member of “600 Club” at Plamor Lanes. She had been an active member of La Crosse Women’s Shrine Hospital Auxiliary and was also a member of Oktoberfest Family. Bev was a dedicated defender and advocate of animal rights and a supporter of La Crosse Humane Society. Many stray and injured animals found their way into her home over the years until they were able to be returned to the wild. Even up to her last days, she shared her sense of humor with the people around her. The family would like to thank the caring staffs of Gundersen Lutheran Hospice Program, “Home Instead” Senior Care and Hillview Healthcare Center.
Survivors include her children, John (Jan) Wiggert of Holmen, Connie (Scott) Swanson of Scottsdale, Ariz., Janet (Rich) Gerke of Onalaska, and Franz (Wendy) Wiggert of La Crosse; stepchildren, Julie (Greg) Gran of Onalaska, Mari (Norm) Erickson of La Crosse, and Laurie (Tim) Hamilton of La Crosse; 16 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a special aunt, Mabel Klimpen of La Crosse.
In addition to her two husbands, she was preceded in death by one sister and two brothers.
Private family inurnment will be in the Mausoleum at Oak Grove Cemetery. Memorial services will be held at a later date at Trinity Lutheran Church of La Crosse. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to La Crosse Humane Society or Shriner’s Children’s Hospitals. Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home of La Crosse is assisting the family with arrangements.
