Skating event to raise money for local skaters

.
A figure skating show Saturday at the Onalaska OmniCenter will feature the talents of three Minnesota state figure skating champions as well as many area skaters.

Holiday on Ice is a first-time event for the Tri-State Toe Picks Figure Skating Club and offers the organization a way to recruit new members and generate some funds, treasurer Colleen Flatten said.
“We start with those who can’t skate and go all the way up,” Flatten said. “We have fun and learn a lot.”

The 14-member Toe Pick show class will open and close the event with a routine they have spent months rehearsing.

They will be followed by the Minnesota state figure skating champions novice ladies champion Shannon Brakke and fifth-place finisher Stevie Schuessler, as well as the intermediate men’s champion Ryan Santee.

Local performers will include Christina Blomquist, Jessica Horner, Katie Mormann and Jessica Verbist.

The Toe Picks conduct instructional programs at the OmniCenter and are accepting new skaters of all abilities. Additional information can be found at www.toepicks.org.
