State extends deadline for college money contest

Wisconsin students will have another month to try to win hundreds of dollars for college.

State Treasurer Dawn Marie Sass says she has extended the deadline for the Why I Hope to Continue My Education Beyond High School contest to Dec. 21.

The contest is open to fourth, fifth and sixth graders. To enter, they must write a 500-word essay about how higher education might make their lives better.

The grand prize is a $2,500 account in EdVest, Wisconsin’s state-sponsored college savings program. Students in seventh through 10th grades can enter a video for a chance to win a $1,000 EdVest account.
