The Holmen Village Board is set to approve its 2010 budget after a public hearing Nov. 30 at 7 p.m. Under the budget, the levy will increase 2.82 percent for a total levy of $1,693,370.
Total expenditures were estimated at $3,813,848 and total estimated revenues were stated as $3,688,848.
Expenditures were down by just over 0.5 percent from 2009.
A levy surplus of $125,000 from the previous budget will be applied to the general fund bringing its total up to $2,336,032 by the end of 2010.
The village tax rate has not yet been set. A comprehensive revaluation of the village was recently completed, providing a major component of the tax rate figure, however officials have been unable to announce what that rate will be.
Originally, the budget hearing was slated for Nov. 12, but a schedule conflict with former village administrator and current Monroe County Administrator Catherine Schmit resulted in the need to reschedule.
Schmit was contracted by the village at a rate of $50 per hour plus mileage to work on the budget.
Schmit told the Finance and Personnel Committee in October that she drafted the budget document with built-in freezes on hiring, pay increases and capital expenditures for most departments.
At the Nov. 30 meeting, People First HR Solutions will present to the board its list of finalists for the vacant village administrator position.
Trustees will get a glimpse of the vetted list, and then will participate in interviewing the candidates in early December.
At their regular meeting last month, board members discussed possibly creating a citizen committee that would meet with candidates.
