The city of Onalaska has launched a revamped Web site designed to be highly interactive and user friendly.
“We want to encourage citizens to visit the new site,” said Onalaska Mayor Mike Giese. “It represents a collaborative effort on the part of the city departments and is designed to be responsive to citizens’ need for immediate information. The site can also grow with the city as we move forward.”
Dan Wick, who heads the city’s Parks and Recreation Department, was responsible for coordinating the new Web site.
“The new site is more than a face lift, it’s a totally new look” said Wick. “The public will be able to check out and sign up for city programs, view ordinances, financial information and minutes from various committees as well as participate in surveys.”
The city launched the new site Oct. 17 at a cost of $7,099. Some sections are still “under construction” with additions being made daily.
Some of the new features include a printer-friendly events calendar that will eventually be linked to each committee; minutes and agendas for meetings; the urban deer management plan; interactive polling asking residents how they like the new site and how they feel about service from city hall; and online forms.
Giese praised the new site’s ability for flexible content management allowing changes on a moment’s notice or as questions and needs arise. “We feel that this is a wise investment,” said Giese, “an interactive Web site is vital to efficient communication between government and citizens. ... Our Web site, cityofonalaska.com will bring more information to our citizens at a lower cost and in a more efficient and intuitive format. We will also be able to add new features to take advantage of emerging internet functions.”
The site address is www.cityofonalaska.com.
