An Aquinas High School graduate, Kramer is a junior at the University of Wisconsin—La Crosse majoring in communications. She hopes to work in television news and recently job shadowed Amy DuPont at WXOW-TV19 to get a taste of the business.
Kramer, who was one of four contestants, won the talent competition with her rendition of “Quando M’en Vo.”
Elizabeth Butler was first runner-up, while Chelsey Burge and Brianna Herber were declared co-winners of the Spirit of Miss America Award. Burge won the awards for interview and community service.
Kramer, the daughter of Joe and Maureen Kramer, is still adjusting to her new title. “My co-workers have been calling me that this week, and it’s really weird,” Kramer said. She works at the Onalaska Target.
Kramer has had her official photo shoot and her first official appearance will be at Friday’s Kornfest fireworks. She plans working on her platform, “Stand Up, Speak Out Against Bullying,” over the year.
Her awareness of bullying came from seeing it victimize her brother. “It affected him and our family,” she recalled. Kramer would like to raise the issue among students.
“Usually it is the teachers and parents who deal with it, and I think it would be more effective for students to confront bullies,” she said.
Kramer competed for the Miss Holmen title in 2007 and came back with the encouragement of people in the pageant. “They really supported me, and I wanted to be Miss Holmen and represent the village,” she said.
Among the dignitaries at the Holmen pageant was Miss Wisconsin, who dropped by from almost next door. Holmen’s Kristina Smaby treated the audience to a preview of the dance routine she’s planning for the Miss America Pageant.
