HOLMEN — The Holmen American Legion baseball team used a big hit by Trey Candahl to score a victory over the La Crosse A’s on Tuesday.
Candahl tripled to deep center field and scored on a bad throw to third base with one out in the bottom of the 10th inning to lift Holmen to an 8-7 victory.
The A’s tied the game at 7 with a three-run seventh. Jimmy Coady’s two-run double highlighted the comeback.
But Holmen didn’t falter as reliever Ben Cejka struck out seven without a walk after entering in the seventh inning.
Cejka was also 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles for a Holmen team that had 13 hits.
On Wednesday, Holmen fell to French Island 6-4. Ben Squier was 2-for-3 and Trey Candahl went 2-4 for Holmen (12-6).
