I often think about the late 1980s and playing golf with then La Crosse Tribune publisher Sandy Hook.
Sandy and I played golf together for many years. He was much better than me, but we still enjoyed the camaraderie and “batting the breeze” about the old County Amateur golf tournament that was dropped in 1976.
Eventually, one thing led to another, and before we knew it, Sandy and I launched the La Crosse Tribune County Amateur Golf Championships.
Needless to say, it was a daunting task, but a tournament that golfers have embraced since 1991.
Now, we kick off another year of the County Am.
I’m amazed by the overwhelming support from players, sponsors and fans.
And each year, they return for the Coulee Region’s oldest tournament.
