HOLMEN — Myrtle S. Newman, 87, of Holmen died Tuesday, June 9, 2009, at Hillview Health Care Center in La Crosse. A complete obituary will follow from Dickinson Family Funeral Home.
Judy Kay Oestreicher
ONALASKA — Judy Kay Oestreicher, 62, of Onalaska, died Monday, June 8, 2009, at Franciscan Skemp Medical Center in La Crosse.
She was born Nov. 18, 1946, in La Crosse to Victor and Doris (Johnson) Peterson. She was a 1964 graduate of Central High School. She married John “Mike” Oestreicher on Feb. 24, 1968, in the Cathedral of St. Joseph the Workman. Prior to her marriage, Judy had worked at Montgomery Ward in La Crosse. She served as past-secretary for the La Crosse Christian Women’s Club. Judy enjoyed traveling and spoiling her grandchildren and looked forward to her monthly get-togethers with her high school classmates.
Judy is survived by her husband John “Mike”; her daughter, Laura (Todd) Johnson of Onalaska; two grandchildren, Jordan and Hannah Johnson; a brother, Jerry Peterson of Vine Grove, Ky.; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 13, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Onalaska. The Rev. Patrick Umberger will officiate. Burial will be held at a later date in Woodlawn Cemetery, La Crosse. Friends may call at Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home of Onalaska on Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. and at the church Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until time of services.

Judy was loving, gentle and devoted to her family and friends. Her kindness, unfailing graciousness and beautiful smile were treasured gifts to us all. As long as recollections have been meant to endure, Judy will be remembered by family and friends with love … and she will live on in our hearts forever.”
Danice Cheatham
LA CRESCENT, Minn. — Danice Cheatham, 75, died peacefully at Golden Living Center in La Crescent on Sunday, June 7, 2009, surrounded by the love of her children.
Danice was born Oct. 17, 1933, in Robinson, Ill., to Eva (McGuigan) and Thomas Cheatham Sr. She graduated from high school in Robinson and attended Purdue University, where she met and married James R. Thompson. They were later divorced.
Danice is survived by her five children who will forever love and miss her, David A. Thompson of Dallas, Michael E. (Cindy) Thompson of Payne, Ohio, Thomas N. (Sandy) Thompson of Onalaska, Mychel (Doug) Krout of Danville, Ill., and Jeffrey C. (Vicki) Thompson of La Crosse. Additionally, she is survived by many grandchildren, stepgrandchildren, great-grandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her only brother, Thomas Cheatham Jr.
Danice passed on a wonderfully adventurous spirit to her children and all who had the good fortune to know her. She loved to travel, and her children will never forget all the ski trips and houseboat vacations they regularly enjoyed. Danice also shared many international vacations with some of her closest friends and traveling buddies. She worked hard, played hard and was always ready to take on any new life challenge with her positive attitude and strength of will. She taught her children that nothing was beyond reach if you set your mind to it. After her massive stroke in 1999 she resided in Franciscan Skemp Nursing Home, Mulder Nursing Home and finally Golden Living Center in La Crescent for her last six years. The strength she demonstrated during the last 10 years of her life will never be forgotten.
Her children extend a heartfelt thank you to all the staff and employees at Golden Living Center for the constant care and comfort they provided Danice during the last few years of her life. They also wish to thank the Franciscan Skemp Hospice nurses, Chaplin and volunteers for helping us all through our last few days with Mom.
A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date. Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home of La Crosse is assisting the family.
Eloise Anderson
ONALASKA/LA CRESCENT, Minn. — Eloise Anderson , 91, of Onalaska and formerly of La Crescent died unexpectedly May 28, 2009, in her apartment in Onalaska.
She moved to La Crescent five years ago from South Dakota to be near her daughter.
Funeral services were held June 1 in Dell Rapids, S.D., with interment in the Dell Rapids Cemetery.
Local survivors include her daughter, Kay (Les) Snuggerud; and grandsons Wade (Wendy) Snuggerud and Bernt Snuggerud.
Marion R. (Wachter) Koenen
GENEVA, Ill. — Marion Ruth (Wachter) Koenen, 82, formerly of Onalaska died after a brief illness Monday, June 8, 2009.
She was born July 18, 1926, in Melrose to Howard and Hazel (Haage) Wachter. After graduating from high school, Marion moved to La Crosse to work at the former La Crosse Rubber Mills Co. She worked there until 1963, leaving her employment to become a full-time homemaker.
After the death of her husband, Leonard, in 2007, Marion relocated to Geneva to be near her son, Mark, and his family. Before moving to Illinois, Marion was a faithful and devout member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. While her sons attended St. Patrick’s Catholic School, Marion spent many hours volunteering in the school library and classrooms. Marion enjoyed cooking, knitting and caring for her family.
Marion is survived by her sons, Mark (Marcia) Koenen of St. Charles, Ill., and Larry (Mary) Koenen of Liverpool, N.Y.; three grandchildren, Alexander Edwin Koenen, Jillian Ruth Koenen and Nicholas John Koenen, all of St. Charles; one sister, Jean (Doyle) Beyl of Madison; one sister-in-law, Ione DeBoer of La Crosse; two brothers-in-law, John (Betty) Koenen of Stoddard and Donald (Rosemary) Koenen of Coon Valley; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Leonard; her parents; and two brothers, Lawrence Wachter and Leo Wachter.
A Mass of the Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 12, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 1031 Main St., Onalaska. The Revs. Patrick Umberger and Douglas Robertson will co-celebrate the Mass. Entombment will be in the mausoleum at the Catholic Cemetery in La Crosse. Friends may call from 9:30 a.m. until time of services Friday at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.

Marilyn M. Jordie
ROCHESTER, Minn. — Marilyn M. Jordie, 87, formerly of Onalaska died Friday, June 5, 2009, at Olmsted Medical Center in Rochester.
Marilyn Mae Olson was born Oct. 18, 1921, in La Crosse. She graduated from Westby High School and attended La Crosse State College. She married Hilton L. Jordie on June 20, 1943, in Coon Valley. He worked for Metallic Corp. as a supervisor. He died in 1980. She and her husband lived most of their lives in Onalaska.
Marilyn worked as a billing clerk for Metallic Corp., retiring in 1984. She was a member of First Lutheran Church and was on Board of Deacons and taught Sunday school. She enjoyed reading and crocheting. She moved to Rochester to be near her daughter in March of 2009. She was currently a resident at Stewartville Care Center.
She is survived by her daughter, Allegra M. Standing (Joe) of Rochester; grandchildren, Sarah Lochan (Shawn) and Bethany Brost (Kristian); great-grandchildren, Jackson, Julia and Lucas Lochan, Sydney, Macy and soon to be Cole Brost; and two brothers, Monroe Olson (Donna) of Sparta, and Everett Olson (Nancy) of Gays Mills.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and two brothers.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at People of Hope Church in Rochester, with the Rev. Susan Rector Li officiating. Burial will be in Stone Church Cemetery, Houston, Minn. Friends may call from 9 a.m. Wednesday until time of services at the church. Memorials are requested to First Lutheran Church, People of Hope Church, 3703 Country Club Road W., Rochester, MN 55902 or to Stewartville Nursing Home Activity Center.
