Holmen was recently recognized with a Community Initiative Award at the National Oral Health Conference in Portland, Ore., for helping prevent tooth decay through water fluoridation. The annual awards are sponsored by the American Dental Association, Association of State and Territorial Dental Directors and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Village President Nancy Proctor was pleased, saying, “As far as I’m concerned I am for better dental health of our residents and have had many people contact me, who are in favor (of fluoridation), to see when the fluoride was actually going to be put into the water.”
Holmen Public Works Director Bob Haines, who was surprised by the award as no one had contacted the village even about being nominated, said he expects fluoride to be put in the water in late 2010.
The fluoridation referendum passed in November 2008 came after the 2009 budget was set, Haines said. The next opportunity to get the costs for fluoridation into the budget is with the 2010 budget. The village will have to design and build additions to the well houses for chemical storage.
Four other Wisconsin cities were recognized for their fluoridation efforts: Cedarburg, Green Bay, Elroy and Fond du Lac.

The EU has a whole has not banned flouride, but 12 European countries have. You sir need to get YOUR facts straight!
Flouride is JUNK science that causes systemic injury and is a huge waste of taxpayer dollars as 98% goes down the drain! "
