Lifeguards will return to their chairs Saturday when the Holmen and Onalaska pools open for the summer.
The pools will be staffed for regular hours Saturday and Sunday but will reduce the time during weekdays until area students start summer vacation.
“This is the latest we have ever opened. We used to open Memorial Day weekend,” said Mike Brogan, Holmen parks and recreation director. “The only thing that really matters is just the temperature outside.”
Holmen will be open 5 to 8 p.m. Monday through June 11 before switching to regular open swim hours, which are 1 to 6:20 p.m. weekdays, noon to 7 p.m. Saturdays and noon to 5 p.m. Sundays.
The Onalaska Aquatic Center will close Monday before opening from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday and staffing regular hours for the remainder of the summer.
