Miller has been with the Onalaska force 13 years and has been sergeant for the past eight years. He was one of three internal candidates who applied for the job.

“I was surprised, Miller said. “But it was a pleasant surprise, and it hasn’t 100 percent sunk in yet.”
As assistant chief, Miller will take on more of an administrative role, overseeing day to day operations and taking on the chief’s responsibilities when he is out of office.
“I am very pleased with the promotion of Troy Miller to the assistant chief’s position,” Police Chief Jeff Trotnic said. “Troy Miller has a very strong work ethic and is very much respected amongst not only the members of the Onalaska Police Department but members of the community. I believe that with the addition of Troy Miller to the command staff of the Onalaska Police Department, the department is in very capable hands for many years to come.”
Miller is just as thrilled.
“The neat thing is I really like the direction Chief Trotnic is taking this place,” he said. “I’m really excited about that.”
