Dorothy A. Borchert
ONALASKA — Dorothy A. Borchert, 87, of Onalaska died on Tuesday June 2, 2009, at Hillview Health Care Center in La Crosse.

She was born on Dec. 14, 1921, in North Bend, Jackson County, Wis., to Amos and Marian (McAdam) Brinker. She married Stanley Borchert on Oct. 10, 1942, in North Bend.

Dorothy worked as a secretary for Reuben Trane, the Onalaska School District, Onalaska City Hall and at the La Crosse School District, retiring as a bookkeeper from the La Crosse Board of Education in 1986. She was also involved in Onalaska United Methodist Church as a Sunday school teacher, in youth activities, Coulee Classics Unlimited Car Club and various groups and committees. In her later years she volunteered with RSVP.

She is survived by one son, Dennis (Lynette) Borchert of Onalaska, and their children, Denise of La Crosse and Diana of Sun Prairie, Wis.; one daughter, Alice Ann (Randolph) Donnell, and their children Andrew, Stephanie and Ross of Sun Prairie; one sister-in-law, Ruby Anderson of Taylor, Wis.; one brother-in-law, Kenneth Borchert of Mindoro; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and a brother-in-law, Victor Evenson.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 6, at Onalaska United Methodist Church, 212 Fourth Ave. N., Onalaska. The Revs. Jenny Arneson and Hyun-Suk Kim will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in North Bend. Relatives and friends may call at Fossum Funeral Home in Onalaska from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday and again at the church on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of the services.

The family would like to thank the staff at both Hearten House III and Hillview Health Care Center for the excellent care they gave our mother in her struggle with Alzheimer’s.

Gerald ‘Jerry’ T. Stellick

MINDORO — Gerald ‘Jerry’ T. Stellick, 56, of Mindoro died on Tuesday, June 2, 2009, at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center, La Crosse.

Jerry was born in La Crosse on July 22, 1952, to Donald and Bernadette (Bleskacek) Stellick. He attended La Crosse schools and was a 1970 graduate of Central High School, where he excelled in sports and was an all-state linebacker for the Red Raider football team. He attended UW-La Crosse and also played linebacker for the Indians under Coach Roger Harring.

Jerry was a member of the La Crosse Fire Department from 1975 until he retired with the rank of captain in 2005. On June 12, 1993, he married Starla (Donaldson) Myers in La Crosse.

Jerry played 16-inch softball for many years with the “Battling Bohunks” from the Bohemian Hall and participated in many of the old-timers tournaments also. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed fishing as well as other outdoor activities. He was also an avid Packer fan.

He is survived by his wife, Starla; two sons, Ryan Stellick and Jeffrey Stellick, both of La Crosse; a stepdaughter, Brenda Campbell of Onalaska; three grandchildren, Cherish Myers and Savannah and McKenna Campbell; two sisters, Jean Stellick of Onalaska and Barb (Rod) Newhouse of La Crescent, Minn.; two brothers, Rick (Mary) Stellick of Hilbert, Wis., and Steve (Lori) Stellick of La Crosse; and two nieces, Susan and Sarah Stellick. He was preceded in death by his parents.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, June 6, at 11 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, La Crosse. The Rev. Lawrence B. Berger will officiate. Friends may call at Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home of La Crosse on Friday from 5 to 8 p.m., and at the church on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers.

Vilas M. Greene

LA CROSSE/ONALASKA — Vilas M. Greene, 86, of La Crosse and formerly of Onalaska died Wednesday, June 3, 2009, at Brookdale Senior Living-Clare Bridge Cottage, La Crosse. Memorial services will be announced by Woodruff-Jandt Funeral Home, La Crosse.

Sylvia J. Markevitch

ONALASKA — Sylvia J. Markevitch, 80, died Tuesday, June 2, 2009, at Mulder Health Care Facility, West Salem. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 1031 Main St., Onalaska. Friends may call from 9 a.m. until the time of services Saturday at the church. A complete obituary will be provided by Dickinson Family Funeral Home.

Donald C. Berg

ONALASKA — Donald C. Berg, 84, of Onalaska died Saturday, May 30, 2009 at Onalaska Care Center in Onalaska.

He was born March 30, 1925, in Minneapolis to Oscar and Theolina (Pladsen) Berg. Don served with the U.S. Navy during World War II. He married Jeanne M. Linek on Sept. 2, 1948 in Minneapolis. Don had worked as a soil conservationist for the USDA’s Soil Conservation Service for 30 years.

He is survived by three children, Dr. Laurence (Catherine) Berg of Onalaska, Elizabeth (Jim) Lile of Lakewood, Colo., and Kristen (Dirk Grupe) Berg of State College, Pa.; six grandchildren, Erika (Matt) Jungwirth, Anthony (Ariel) Berg, Phoebe Lile, Renee Lile, Dylan Grupe and Gavin Grupe; and a great-granddaughter, Layla Michelle Berg.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Committal services will be held at a later date in Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis.

Jess Ondell

LA CROSSE -- Jess Ondell was born May 27, 1921, in Adelaide, S.D., to Jess and Martha (Papke) Ondell. He died Saturday, May 30, 2009, at Hillview Health Care Center in La Crosse.

Jess is survived by his wife of 65 years, Marilyn; his children, Todd (Deb) Ondell of La Crosse, Rochelle Ondell of Park City, Utah, and Dane (Cindy) Ondell of Holmen; four grandchildren, Bryce of Las Vegas, Chelsey of Minneapolis, Haley of Madison and Jess of Holmen.

A celebration honoring Jess will be held from noon to 2 p.m. July 17 at the Cleary Center, 615 East Ave. N., La Crosse.

Memorials may be directed to the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse Foundation or to Gundersen Lutheran Foundation.

Diane L. Betthauser

HOLMEN — Diane L. Betthauser, 45, of Holmen lost her battle with cancer on Sunday, May 31, 2009, at her home.

She was born in Black River Falls on Jan. 2, 1964, to Donald and Violet (Laufenburg) Olson. Diane loved to sing karaoke and cook and do crafts with her kids.

In addition to her father of Black River Falls, she is survived by her four children, Josh Olver of Holmen, Jonathon Betthauser of Holmen, Zabrina Johnson of Osseo, Wis., and Pamela Betthauser of Holmen; one brother, Michael (Julie) Olson of Holmen; and her nephew, Patrick Olson of Holmen. She was preceded in death by her mother.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, June 4, at Squaw Creek Lutheran Church in Black River Falls. Pastor Thoreson will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Thursday from 11 a.m. until the time of services.

Sharon Sue Every

Sharon Sue Every, 66, of La Crosse passed away at her home in the loving arms of her husband and surrounded by her family, Monday, June 1, 2009, after a hard-fought 10-year battle with cancer.

She was born on Aug. 13, 1942, in La Crosse to Albert and Margaret (Lindner) Byers and graduated from La Crosse Central High School in 1960. On Jan. 21, 1961, she married Gerald V. Every at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in La Crosse.

Sharon was a devoted homemaker who enjoyed her many hours caring for her family as well as spending time at the family boathouse, fishing, camping and playing softball. She also loved watching her grandkids play ball as well as watching the Brewers and Cubs. She was passionate about her cooking and baking and made the best chocolate chip cookies. Sharon was also known for her beautifully grown flowers.

In addition to her husband, Gerald, Sharon is survived by her children, Jerry “Queak” (Jody) Every of La Crosse, Michael Every of Roseglen, N.D., Wendy (Rick) Pfennig of La Crosse and Mark Every of Holmen; 10 grandchildren, Preston Every, Allison, Jordan and Sydney Every, Julie Every, Jessica, Cody and Shelby Pfennig and Austin and Lynzie Every; a brother, Richard (Lois) Byers of Austin, Texas; a sister, Marjorie Paletta of La Crosse; a stepbrother, Vern Brown of La Crosse; as well as many nieces, nephews and close friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Janice Horschak.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 5, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in La Crosse, with the Rev. Roger Hjelle officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery, La Crosse. Friends and family may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home of La Crosse and at the church Friday from 9:30 a.m. until time of services.

Memorials are suggested to Franciscan-Skemp Hospice Program or La Crosse Central High School Booster Club.
