The Holmen resident first participated in the 3-Day walk in Minneapolis benefiting the Susan G. Komen for the Cure in 2008. Because of a knee injury two weeks prior to the event, Pehl was only able to walk 43 miles in three days. After the walk in September, Pehl had knee surgery.
This year, Pehl is ready to take on the 60 miles Aug. 21-23 in the Twin Cities. Fifteen cities across the country will host a 3-Day walk this summer.
Pehl’s nine-member team, the Mullet Pigs Krew, hope to raise $20,000. A recent Yahtzee tournament helped get them to their current $10,100 balance. Pehl’s personal fundraising goal is $3,000.
Last year’s Mullet Pigs Krew raised almost $31,000.
Pehl’s passion comes from having breast cancer in the family. Her mother-in-law, paternal grandmother and cousin have been affected by the disease and Pehl wants to do her part to prevent the disease from taking any more lives.
