Howard F. Dorn
WINONA, Minn. — Howard F. Dorn, 99, died Saturday, May 30, 2009, at Lewiston Villa in Lewiston, Minn. Howard was born March 22, 1910, in Winona, to Frank and Louise (Roemhild) Dorn. He married Rose Schneider on June 30, 1934, in Winona. Howard honorably served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the European Theater. He worked for Warner Swasey as a welder for many years and retired in 1975. After retirement Howard was an avid fisherman. He had been a resident of the Lewiston Villa for the past five years.
Survivors include his two sons, Dan (Nancy) Dorn of Onalaska, and Allyn Dorn of La Crosse; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Rose; son Dennis; daughter, Judy; four brothers; and three sisters.
Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Hoff Funeral and Cremation Service Hansen, Goodview Chapel, with a time of sharing at 6:30 p.m. Refreshments will be served during the hours of visitation. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Winona.

Myles V. Shaw
SAN ANGELO, Texas/ONALASKA — Myles V. Shaw, 51, formerly of Onalaska died in San Angelo, Wednesday, May 27, 2009. He was born Sept. 29, 1957, in La Crosse, to Vance and Delores Shaw. He is survived by a daughter, Sarah Radde of Colorado Springs, Colo.; two sisters, Charlene (Dick) Schmidt of San Angelo, and Elaine Shaw of Chicago; and a brother, Steve (Marjorie) Shaw of Holmen.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorial services will be held in San Angelo, and burial will take place at a later date in Onalaska Cemetery.
Dickinson Family Funeral Homes are assisting the family.
Charles W. McGuire Sr.
ONALASKA — Charles W. McGuire Sr., 60, of Onalaska passed away Friday, May 29, 2009, at his home.
He was born in La Crosse on Nov. 7, 1948, to Lloyd and Geneva (Wells) McGuire. Charles served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam, receiving two purple hearts and a letter of accommodation. He worked as a welder for Trane Co. for 29 years, retiring in November 2008.
Charles married Linda Slaughter on May 23, 1970.
Charles enjoyed the outdoors, duck hunting, fishing and trap shooting. He made the best bacon wrapped goose and always had a great sense of humor. But, most of all, he loved spending time with his family and friends. He always made time for his kids and grandkids and will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Charles is survived by his loving wife, Linda; one daughter, Christal (Dan) Thielker, and one son, Charles McGuire Jr., both of Onalaska; two grandchildren, Nicole and Kyle Thiekler; two sisters, Harriet (Donald) Schulpius of Kenora, Canada/Cape Coral, Fla., and Mary Sharon of Onalaska; two brothers, Thomas McGuire of Las Vegas and Lonnie McGuire of La Crosse; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, David McGuire.
A memorial service with military honors will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 2, at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 701 Well St., Onalaska. Bishop Steven Sorensen will officiate. Friends may call at Dickinson Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 401 Main St., Onalaska, on Monday from 4 to 7 p.m., and at the church on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until time of service.
