Glen L. Sacia
MINDORO — Glen L. Sacia, 91, formerly of Mindoro died Saturday, May 23, 2009, at Marinuka Manor in Galesville.
He was born May 9, 1918, in Mindoro to Harry and Winnie (Wilson) Sacia. Glen was a veteran of the U.A. Army, serving in the Aleutian Islands during World War II. On Sept. 10, 1946, he married Louise Olson in West Salem, and she preceded him in death on Aug. 24, 2000. Together, they farmed in the Mindoro area for many years. In addition to farming, Glen worked for the La Crosse County Highway Department for many years. Following his retirement, he continued to work until age 85, part-time in maintenance for Riverland Girl Scout Camp Ehawee. Glen was a 63 year member of Gunderson-Gilbertson American Legion Post 507 of Mindoro and a member of the Black Oak Rider’s Club.
Survivors include one son, Richard (Sherry) Sacia of Galesville; two daughters, Kay (Michael) Grimslid of Holmen and Lori (Robert) Ernstes of Melrose; one foster son, Russell Smalley and his family of O’Fallon, Ill.; six grandchildren, Natalee (Jeremy) Stock of North Padre Island, Texas, Nicklaus Grimslid of Camp Pendleton, Calif., John Sacia of Sidney, Australia, Ann Sacia of Minneapolis, Stephanie Spurlin of Nashville, Tenn., and Emma Ernstes of Melrose; one great-granddaughter, Louise Sacia Stock; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife, Glen was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Spencer Sacia; and two sisters, Harriet Bahr and Janet Borchert.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, May 29, at Mindoro Lutheran Church. Pastor Janet Wollam will officiate. Following the service, military honors will be performed by Mindoro American Legion Post 507 and the U.S. Army Funeral Honor Guard. Private family burial will be in Black Oak Cemetery at a later date. Friends may call at Mindoro Lutheran Church on Friday from 10 a.m. until time of services.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Mindoro Lutheran Church.
