ONALASKA — Debra J. Kish, 53, died Wednesday, May 20, 2009, at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center, La Crosse. A full obituary will be provided by Dickinson Family Funeral Home.

HOLMEN — Dale H. Stein, 64, of Holmen passed away Saturday, May 16, 2009, at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center.

He was born in La Crosse on Jan. 25, 1945, to Orville and Eleanor (Thompson) Stein. Dale served in the U.S. Army, stationed in Quirnheim, Germany, from 1965 to 1967. On Aug. 25, 1967, he married Christine Psaar in Ebertsheim, Germany.

Dale worked for the city of La Crosse for 31 years, retiring in December of 2008. He was a member of American Legion, Roy L. Vingers Post 52 in La Crosse.

Dale loved La Crosse and took pride in his work for the city. He enjoyed the outdoors, deer hunting, traveling, and liked to fix anything he could get his hands on, especially antique engines. But, most of all Dale loved his family, spending time with his grandchildren and family and friends in Germany.

Dale was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. He will be truly missed by all who knew him.

Dale is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Christine; one daughter, Jessica (Mario Garcia) Stein of Espanola, N.M.; two grandchildren, Max and Desmond Garcia; two brothers, Orville A. (Mary) Stein of La Crosse and Russell L. (Tena) Stein of Abilene, Texas; two sisters, Sandra L. (Jack) Grimes of Holmen and Viola “Jeannie” Wallace of Genoa; a sister-in-law, Carole Stein; his family and friends in Germany; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Douglas E. Stein and John F. Stein; and a sister-in-law, Karen Stein.

A memorial service with military honors will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 22, at Holmen Lutheran Church, 228 Morris St. The Rev. Dan Henderson will officiate. Friends may call Dickinson Family Funeral Home, 515 McHugh Road, Holmen on Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m., and at the church on Friday from 10 a.m. until time of service. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred.

Betty Ann Schmidt

WEST SALEM — Betty Ann Schmidt, 70, of West Salem died Sunday, May 17, 2009, at Hillview Health Care Center, La Crosse.

She was born in La Farge on April 1, 1939. Betty married Peter N. Schmidt on June 6, 1959, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. She had farmed for many years and had worked at Villa St. Joseph. Betty was a member of 4-H and loved fishing.

She is survived by five children, Rose Lemke of West Salem, Mary (Allan) Bergmann of St. Joseph Ridge, Kevin (Nancy) Schmidt of West Salem, Kenneth (Kimberly) Schmidt of West Salem and Thomas (Heidi) Schmidt of Onalaska; 13 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; her mother, Alice; a sister, Helen Safford of St. Germaine, Wis.; and two brothers, Kenneth Widner of Beloit, Wis., and La Verne Widner of Crowley, La.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her father; her stepfather, Albert Widner; a grandson; and a granddaughter.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 23, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, St. Joseph Ridge. The Rev. Francis Abuah Quansah will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call at the church from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of services. A rosary will be recited Friday at 6 p.m. Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home of La Crosse is in charge of arrangements.
